The Dream is almost a reality.

Day 380

December 19, 2005

We are both working on windows and trim.  We are also dealing with the door factory in Spain about the damaged shipment, and we are getting quotes on the bar top.

December 14, 2005

NOTE:  Thanks to the heroic work of U.S. Customs Agent Whitman, we finally have the five interior doors that were ordered from Spain (months ago).  They are quite handsome and just what we wanted.

In the "two steps forward — one step back" department:  Somewhere between a trucking strike in Spain, the cargo container going to the Port of New York instead of Miami, and the additional handling from NY to FL (as we had planned to drive to Miami to pick them up), the doors we have been waiting for are damaged.  Now it is back to trying to explain the damage in Spanish and attempt to get replacement parts and pieces for the doors.

Day 379

December 12, 2005

Brian is still working on the window frames and will be for many, many day..

... and Daniel is still working on designing the round railing for under the oculus.

Below is how the railing would look "ideally."  At right is how it is looking so far.  Unfortunately, the ideal railing does not meet building code since the columns are spaced too far apart, and the government is concerned some stupid baby will fall through the railing.  Also, our hole is also a bit bigger and requires a larger circumference to the railing and more columns.

Day 378

December 7, 2005

We are both working on the round railing, now, as it is big and heavy and a hernia waiting to happen when lifting and moving it by one's self.

Day 375 & 376

November 20 & 23, 2005

Brian is working on the window frames, and Daniel is still creating a round railing.

Construction

Day 374

November 9, 2005

Brian is still (and will be for many, many days) working on puttying, sanding, priming, and painting the interior of the window frames.

Daniel is still working on custome creating the round railing for the rotunda.

Construction

Day 372 & 373

November 5 & 6, 2005

Brian continues to work on the window frames, and Daniel is cleaning up and organizing the construction site.

Construction

Day 371

November 2, 2005

Brian is back to the tedious job of puttying, sanding, and painting the interior, wood frames of the windows.

Daniel is designing the bar top and adding a side panel.  Cardboard forms are used to test out dimensions and get the feel for the size and shape.
