Day 20 June 26
... and one step back. You might notice the difference between today's photo and yesterday's photo. That's right the surveying stakes are pulled up and tossed on the ground. |
|
We did not have a good feeling about the survey crew that was out placing the markers. The original survey company had been bought out/taken over by another company. They delayed the project by two weeks as they were "moving offices." Finally got them to come out yesterday and stake out the buildings. This morning, two different people from the survey company were out "to verify some of the measurements." Later that afternoon, the survey company called to warn me not to have the footers poured until they could correct the placement of the survey stakes they put out the day before. I told the owner of the company, Roz, I was concerned because of the previous problems and now the errors made by their crew. Roz was far from professional in her list of excuses and attitude. I told her it would be best if I hired another survey company to do the job correctly. I was gone for 45 minutes while signing the contract with the new survey company, and when I returned, all the survey stakes had been pulled up and tossed around the site. I called Roz and told her she and her company just confirmed that I had made the correct choice in choosing a new company to stake out the house. Bottom Line: Don't use the services of the following companies:
These are apparently all the same company run by Roz. So, the new stake out will be done by Monday morning and we can move forward, again. In the meantime, we are renting some more big equipment to work on the grading around the house. |

Construction Day 19 June 25
After a lot of hassles with the survey company, they finally came out and staked out the footers. Good thing Brian was keeping a close eye on the surveyor because the house was almost 6' closer to the neighbor than it was supposed to be. |
|
You might also notice the addition of a "water feature" in the front yard. Thanks to almost non-stop rain over the weekend (no, it wasn't raining where we camped), we have lake front property in front of as well as behind the house.

June 20
|
Working on scheduling stake-out and masons for footers. Getting quotes on concrete, block, and termiticides. No progress on actual construction as it keeps raining, everyday. We are taking the weekend off and going camping (yeah, in the rain). |
Construction Days 17-18 June 16-17 |
No real noticeable difference as we are backfilling around the grading and working more on the beach area. We are just waiting for the survey crew to stake out the footers. Only a few more days of having a backhoe at our disposal. We've driven it more than the car, lately.
Today it has been raining all day and we only got a few hours of work finished this morning before the rain started.
|
Construction Days 15-16 June 13-14
The foundation is finally graded to the correct elevations. Yes, the house sits 2' higher than the garage. TOTAL COUNT: 46 Truckloads of sand |
|
Construction Day 14 June 11
...and on the 14th day, it rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and rained. One worker wasn't bright enough to come in out of the rain. I wonder if he realizes that the time clock has a rain sensor, and automatically punches out the worker when the rain starts. |
|
O.K. so it was funny enough to make it into a movie. We are open to title suggestions. Just run your mouse over the box to the right.

|
Construction Days 11-13 June 6-8
Not much visible change as we are reworking the elevations for the house and will now raise it another 1.25 feet to allow for a gravity run septic system. We've also been working on the lakefront and trimming the affected trees. |
