Dream House Web Log (Days 1-5)

Watch our progress as we build (or as we currently play in the dirt and sand)

See it live if Brian's web cam is running.  WebCam

Day 5

The driveway starts to take shape

The ground is de-mucked and we can start bringing in the sand to fill and grade.

Day 4

Not a noticeable difference to the lot since the day was spent digging out cedar tree roots.  Apparently, there used to be a forest of cedar trees here.  Their roots run deep and strong.

Day 3

Day 2

Day 1

May 21, 2002

note added 5/21/02:  And so it begins...  Earth is starting to move and Brian is the mover.  We have to begin by de-mucking the ground so we can bring in the sand to grade and prepare for the footers and slabs.

note added 5/9/02:  We got the building permits!!!!  A few hassles and a few more hoops to jump through, but we got the permits and can start construction as of 5:00 today.  Next step is to get the big equipment in to start moving earth.

note added 5/8/02:  The blueprints are in hand and we are headed to the building department first thing in the morning.

note added 4/4/02:  We were "granted" the variance and have to wait a 15-day appeal period.  Then we will be given our building permits!!  Check back as we will be adding video of the hearing, soon.

DECISION: Approved the Variance request in that the Board made the finding that the requirements of Orange County Code, Section 30-43 have been met; further, said approval is subject to the following conditions:

1. Building design shall be in accordance with the elevation plans submitted with the application;

2. Use of the structure shall be a 2 car garage and storage only;

3. The camper shall be removed within 90 days or parked inside the accessory building;

4. The applicant shall obtain a certificate of occupancy for the primary residence prior to issuance of a certificate of occupancy for the detached accessory building.

(unanimous)

SYNOPSIS: The applicant wants to construct a home with a detached accessory building. The accessory building needs two variances. The applicant submitted letters of no objection from the adjacent property owners. The BZA felt the request was reasonable. There was no opposition at the hearing.

photo added 3/22/02:  We Y Zoning!  Here we are with the required posting for the Zoning Variance Hearing.  We have to get a variance because the garage is too tall and too big (according to Zoning).

We are item #12 on the agenda for the hearing
