Days 131-140

Watch our progress while we build

Construction

Days

139 & 140

August 2 & 3

We are still working on installing more rigid insulation.  It is a lot of measuring, cutting, and gluing.

Construction

Day 138

July 31

All the work crews are gone and we are back to working on the rigid insulation that has to be installed over the block walls.

Construction

Day 137

July 30

The insulation crews have returned and are continuing with installation.  The difference is already noticeable.

Brian has to work on the exterior and is covering the windows in preparation of painting and he is sealing the stucco.

Construction

Day 136

July 29

The insulation installation is still in progress.

We are starting to get quotes on gutter installation.

Construction

Day 135

July 28

Two crews from the insulation company are here two days early.  We had planned to take today off, but it is difficult to reschedule crews.  The insulation is a premium, spray-in foam that will seal the entire roof deck, the exterior framed walls, and the floor deck.  It will add a lot to soundproofing, too.

Brian's work passed the low voltage electrical inspection.

Construction

Day 134

July 27

Brian has completed running all the cabling for the house and garage... for now.  The inspection is scheduled for tomorrow.

We had to take down another tree.  Our sugar maples are stressed from the construction and there was already a problem with a maple disease before we started.  It is sad losing a 60' tree, but it also blocked the view.

Day 133

July 24

We are sealing around the windows with caulk, applying a coat of sealant to the stucco, and laying down some acoustic sealant along the interior walls.  Lots of projects for us.

Construction

Day 132

July 22

The lightning rod system is complete.  Unfortunately because the oculus extends above the height of the roof, we had to install 3 lightning rods at the top.  Fortunately, the rods are not very noticeable and they will blend in more as they tarnish naturally.

Construction

Day 131

July 21

Stucco is almost complete.  The crew will return a few times during the rest of construction for touch-ups.  The stucco around the oculus is finished, too.

Hopefully we have worked out the issues concerning insulation with the County... they stamped the plans at least.
