Construction

Day 70

March 8

"Fun with erection"

We have had to erect scaffolding around the columns to continue them up to the final height.

Construction

Day 69

March 7

We had delivery of two truckloads of fill for grading.

The columns on the front of the house & garage are now over 12' high.  An inspection is schedule and then the new height can be poured solid with concrete.

Day 68

March 6

Another four truckloads of fill have been delivered as we continue to grade around the house and garage.  We are also having to grade an area for parking the mini-home since the neighborhood wacko has been calling the County and complaining about where it is parked (same place it has been parked for 25 years).  If the rain stays away, the framers might complete the upstairs interior walls for the house.

03/05 — Rain, rain, and more rain for days.  The truss company did not have the courtesy to call and inform us that the trusses were going to be delayed for another five days.  This delay puts the framers off, too.  In the meantime, we are trying to find a new roofing contractor.  The one we had selected does not need the business nor cares to serve customers while business is booming.  We are considering switching from shingle roofs to metal roofs, and we are now getting quotes on metal roofs.

Day 67.5

February 28

The framers showed up at 7:00 am and the rain showed up at 7:20 am.  The framers left for the day.  The only things accomplished were the inspection of the columns and the pouring of concrete into the columns.  Less than a hour of progress, but we also got the site cleaned up a little, too.

Day 67

February 27

Our staircase now goes all the way to the top floor.  The non-load bearing walls on the first floor have been completed.  The outer walls of the second floor are also complete.

We are delayed by the truss company not having the roof trusses ready.  It worked in our favor this time because the designs of nine trusses are incorrect as we discovered today.

The trusses are being redesigned and hopefully will be delivered the middle of next week.  That means we are still exposed to rain and the framer might go to another job until the trusses are delivered.

The front columns are now up to 8' high.  They will be inspected and poured solid tomorrow.

Construction

Day 66

February 26

The exterior walls for the second floor are completed.  We even have stairs up to the first landing in the house.  We were getting tired of climbing a ladder to the second floor all the time.

Construction

Day 65

February 25

Most of the side, exterior walls are up.

Construction

Day 64

February 24

The second floor framing continues.  The front walls are going up.  It is easier to see the second floor bathroom that comes out over the front door.

Construction

Day 63

February 22

The missing truss finally showed up at 10:00 after a few heated calls to the truss rep, and an admission by the truss company that they had not even built the truss until today.

The second floor deck is complete.

Construction

Day 62

February 21

The framing for the second floor of the house continues.

This was a day we could have skipped.  The truss company assured me they would be delivering the floor truss for the house that they forgot to manufacture.  It didn't show up.  They said it was because the truck that was supposed to deliver the truss broke down... yeah, right.  They assured me it would be delivered Saturday morning at 9:00 am.  The framers continue with what they can do without the missing truss.  While one of the framers is drilling into the slab to anchor the load-bearing walls, he drills through one of the plumbing pipes buried in the slab.  The framer was supposed to be drilling down 4" and the pipe was down 9".  Now, the slab has to be jack hammered to get to the pipe and repair it.  Of course, the framer is blaming the plumber and the plumber is blaming the framer.  At least some of the second floor deck is in place.

Construction

Day 61

February 20

All the floor trusses for the house are installed except one.  The truss company forgot to build one.  The floor plan is really taking shape as most of the interior walls are complete.

The floor trusses for the house are being installed.
