Watch our progress while we build |
Construction Day 80 March 22
Progress... on a Saturday. |
The re-engineered roof trusses were actually delivered when promised, but it looks like they are still wrong.
The masons are finishing the last of the columns and then all the block work is complete.
The framers are still working on the rotunda and preparing for the removal of the incorrect trusses. A bit of good news — the felt paper for the garage roof is on so the garage can be dried in, and most of the house roof is complete.
At least there was a cool moment today when the stack for the oculus was placed through the roof. |

Construction Day 79 March 21
One step forward.... three steps back.
Rain, rain, and more rain. By now, rain shouldn't be a problem, but
the truss company has screwed our roof trusses up so badly that a 6' wide
section of the trusses and roof must be removed, re-engineered and
replaced. It rained last night, but the framers and roof deckers were here for part of the day until the rains started, again. The house is very flooded. Not all the windows are in. The roof deck is wet and starting to delaminate. At least, we passed the exterior framing and [yes] roofing inspection. |
Construction Day 78 March 20
Very busy day... The framers are finishing up. The roof deckers are almost done. The facia and soffit are being put up. |
Most importantly: the windows are here! And the first window is going in. We expect 90% of the windows to be installed today. |
Construction Day 77 March 19
The roof deck is going up on the house. The rotunda is finally taking shape.
Construction Day 76 March 18
The roof deck is going up on the garage. The window installers are preparing the openings. The framers are focusing on the rotunda.
The Building Inspector gave us the pass we needed.
Construction Day 75 March 17
The framing on the roof trusses continues. The garage is ready for frame inspection tomorrow.
Finally, the masons showed up to work on the columns. The columns on the front of the house and garage are at their final height. They will be inspected and poured solid tomorrow.
Construction Day 74 March 14 |
The framers continue to work on attaching the roof trusses.
The masons are still no-shows. |
Construction Day 73 March 13
At least the framers showed up today. We waited all morning for the crane to arrive and hoist the roof trusses. The crane was in a vehicle accident on the way here. Finally in the afternoon, the roof trusses started moving into place.
The first truss is set.
At the end of the day, both the house and the garage have the large roof trusses in place. There are some smaller trusses that will be placed tomorrow. The roof decking will also begin tomorrow in preparation for the roof.. |
NOTE 3/12/03: Gotta love the construction industry. The masons and the framers were supposed to show up today and work. Neither did.
Construction Day 72 March 11
The framers are here for a half day to prepare for the placement of the trusses. The crane to lift the trusses will be here tomorrow.
The concrete columns have been poured solid. |
Construction Day 71 March 10
Still lots of rain throughout the days. We have to spend a lot of time just pumping out the house. Fortunately, the garage is designed for water to run right out.
The roof trusses are finally supposed to be delivered today, after a two week delay by the manufacturer.
