The Dream is almost a reality.

Day 280

October 29, 2004

Finally, the drywall contractor sent out someone to fix the knock-down on the hallway wall.   We've only been waiting months.  It took daily calls, but it is fixed.  Now we can complete this one wall that was holding up both the A/C install and the electricians.

Daniel has added insulation and sound reduction material to the dishwasher cabinet.  He is also painting the last of the 2nd floor deck support boards so Brian can finish installing the supports.  Brian is also cleaning up the garage so we can be ready to paint in there.

Day 279

October 14, 2004

The power company has finally come back and have trenched from the street to the house.  They are running the electric power lines deep underground because they feared someone like Brian would hit them with a shovel.

We also have picked up the last of the custom tile for the tub surround.

Day 278

October 11, 2004

The electricians have returned and continue to work on outlets, lights, and the two breaker boxes.  They have also started on the garage by installing outlets and switches.

We are also still waiting for the electric company to run the wire from the pole to the house so we can connect at the meter.

Day 277

October 8, 2004

We passed the electrical trench inspection.

Brian is installing the under-the-cabinets lights for the kitchen, and making the custom cuts for the outlets and plugs on the kitchen island.

Daniel is cleaning up after the electricians and preparing the one wall that still needs to be touched-up by the drywall contractor.

Day 276

October 7, 2004

We are buzzing with activity as the full complement of electricians have returned and are working on finishing all the electrical connections in the house.

The electrical connections to the detached garage are being installed.  The wire has to be trenched and buried which also requires an inspection.

Day 275

October 6, 2004

A smaller swarm of electricians have returned, today.  Working inside on a lot of projects and working outside on the higher, exterior lights.

The electrician is modifying the electrical boxes to meet the new requirements of Progress Energy.  The nerve of them to change the requirements after we started building.

Also, the Corian countertops in all the bathrooms are being installed.

Day 274

October 5, 2004

We are swarming with electricians working inside the house.  Ceiling fans, switches, outlets, track lighting, and smoke detectors are being installed.  The electrical wiring to the air conditioners is being connected, too.

Unfortunately yesterday, Progress Energy was supposed to run the underground electrical wiring from the utility pole to the meter box.  They said the box was incorrectly mounted so we are having to argue the point and reschedule for the utility line to be run.

Day 273

September 19, 2004

Working on a few smaller projects around the house.

Now that our scaffolding is back from being out on loan, Brian is working on the second floor deck and installing the recessed lights and ceiling fan at the 18' height.

Daniel is working on cleaning up after the last few crews and repairing the driveway after having the dumpster removed.

Day 272

September 7, 2004

Just a day after a hurricane and days before another is scheduled to visit, we were busy cleaning up storm debris when the A/C crew showed up to install the outside heat pumps.  They did not even call to see if we were alive or if the building was still standing.  So, we had a day of progress instead of clean up, but both heat pumps are installed and the interiors grills are in place.  The crew was really surprised when I requested they wrap and protect the outside units to minimize damage from the on-coming hurricane.

NOTE 09/04/04:  Hurricane Frances is headed in, and we still have a small leak that we think is finally patched.  We did have a unusual sunset thanks to Frances.

Day 271

September 3, 2004

Since we have company arriving tomorrow (Aunt Frances the Blowhard), we are installing the air handlers and filters for the HVAC system.
