Construction Day 50 December 31 |
The block walls are still going up. The house is really taking shape. Now, we can see why the windows are so expensive since they are so large. |
Construction Day 49 December 30 |
The walls are starting to rise. The walls go up 10' before they require an inspection and are poured solid with concrete. Then we can continue up another 8'. The garage went up first followed by the house. |

12/09/02 — We have run into two delays. One is the framer we had planned on using has decided he is too busy for our job. So, we have to find another framer. Plus, we are having to fabricate a steel beam as a structural support for the large rear window on the house. The masons cannot put up the walls until the steel beam is ready to put into place. This should be a delay of about a week.

Construction Day 47 November 25
The garage pad is prepared for inspection. The termite treatment has been done, and the interior footer dug. The masons also dug the footers for the front columns (house & garage) and the front covered patio. Plus, we had more truckloads of sand delivered so we can do more grading around the garage. |
Construction Days 45-46 November 18 & 20
More filling and more grading of the garage. The garage is ready for the masons to return and dig the interior footers and prepare for slab inspection. |
Good News - The cars fit in the garage.
Bad News - The garage door opener doesn't seem to work.
Construction Day 44 November 15
We have started filling and grading the garage stem wall. Five more truckloads of sand are scheduled. |
Construction Day 43 November 13 |
At 5pm, the masons showed up to install the garage stem wall. It was a crew of twelve so the wall was up in an hour. Now, we have to bring in more truckloads of sand (six are on order for tomorrow) to fill the stem wall and prepare it for the slab. |

We have slab!! | |
Construction Day 42 November 7
The concrete is being poured!! The house slab and the garage footers are being poured. The weather is perfect for foundation pouring. The air is dry and the temperature is 50 degrees. That will keep the concrete from drying too quickly and cracking.
The concrete started pouring at 7am, and by 9am, we already had 40 yards of concrete in the house. |
Hiring the boom pump truck made a huge difference in the ease and ultimate quality of the job. |
Construction Day 41 November 4 |
Electrical rough-in inspection this morning [Passed]. Termite treatment applied to the pad. The masons completed the pad preparation with vapor barrier and rebar. Slab inspection tomorrow and then the foundation for the house will be poured with concrete at the same time as the garage footers. |
